Tennessee Softball Schedule 2024: What To Know

With a Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament championship, plus the program's first Women's College World Series appearance in eight years, Tennessee softball had a 2023 campaign to remember.

The Lady Volunteers head into 2024 with the combination of experience and talent to accomplish even more in 2024.

Tennessee welcomes back a variety of leading contributors from last season's outstanding team, while integrating some high-potential newcomers.

The Lady Vols will test their mettle immediately into the 2024 schedule when they head West to the Palm Springs, California, area for the 2024 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Get to know more about Tennessee's softball program going into 2024, before the title-hopeful visits Coachella Valley and one of the sport's premier tournaments.

How Did Tennessee Softball Do In 2023?

A landmark season produced Tennessee's first Women's College World Series run since 2015, the program's first 50-win finish since 2013 and its second regular-season SEC championship, the first since 2007.

The 51-10 Lady Volunteers advanced to Oklahoma City for the WCWS with a 5-0 postseason mark, bombarding Northern Kentucky and Indiana in regional play, before dispatching Texas in two straight games.

Tennessee opened its WCWS with a win over SEC counterpart Alabama, but could not take down champion Oklahoma or runner-up Florida State.

Who Coaches Tennessee Softball?

Karen Weekly is the coach of Tennessee Volunteers softball. She debuted as Tennessee's softball coach in 2002 after five outstanding seasons at Chattanooga, a tenure that culminated in the Mocs reaching the 2000 and 2001 NCAA Tournament.

Weekly guided Tennessee to its second postseason appearance by her third season at the helm in 2004. By 2005, she had the Lady Volunteers in the Women's College World Series.

Has Tennessee Ever Won The Women’s College World Series?

No, Tennessee softball has never won a Women's College World Series title.

The Lady Vols advanced to the WCWS in 2005 for the first of three straight trips. They've appeared eight times overall.

They have won their way into the championship round twice, in 2007 and 2013, but never won the national title.

Notable Returning Players

Kiki Milloy, OF

Multiple-time All-American outfielder Kiki Milloy is coming off a 2023 in which she hit .406, stole 40 bases on 41 attempts and set a Tennessee softball record with 25 home runs.

Her historic 2023 culminated in a nomination to the All-Women's College World Series team.

Milloy is poised to be one of the leading contenders for national player of the year recognition in 2024 and is the driving force behind Tennessee's aspirations of a national title.

Payton Gottshall, P

Payton Gottshall transferred to Tennessee from Bowling Green, where she dominated the Mid-American Conference.

Gottshall translated immediately to the SEC, finishing 2023 with a 1.65 ERA, 130 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .161.

Gottshall becomes the likely ace of Tennessee's staff with Ashley Rogers having graduated.

Notable Newcomers

Sophia Nugent, C

Sophia Nugent brings national-championship experience to Tennessee as a transfer from Oklahoma.

Nugent made 18 starts for the Sooners in 2023 and hit seven home runs with a .694 slugging percentage.

Bella Faw, INF

Headlining a promising freshman class at Tennessee is Bella Faw, a top 20-ranked high school prospect in the 2023 signing class.

Faw shined at shortstop for both the Atlanta Vipers club teams, as well as North Gwinnett (Georgia) High School.
