WEEKLY HONORS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ashley Jacobson, Stony Brook

Junior | Infield | Snohomish, Washington / Glacier Peak

Jacobson batted .667 (8-for-12) and posted a .692 on-base percentage, slugging 1.400 with three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored throughout the week. 

The junior infielder extended her hitting streak to seven games, hitting safely in all four games of a 3-1 week for Stony Brook, including three multi-hit performances. 

Jacobson homered in three contests, driving in at least one run in three games and scoring at least one run in all four. 

Over the weekend, she went 6-for-9 at the plate, with two long balls, five RBIs and five runs scored in a CAA series win.  

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Kayla Douglas, North Carolina A&T

Senior | Charlotte, North Carolina / Independence 

Douglas was 2-0 in the circle, pitching 8.1 innings of relief without giving up an earned run, to help North Carolina A&T to its first CAA series sweep. 

In Game 1 of the series, Douglas scattered three hits in 3.1 innings without surrendering an earned run, allowing the Aggies to rally from a 6-0 deficit to win 8-6. 

The senior right-hander returned in the series finale, tossing five innings of shutout ball, with four strikeouts. A&T rallied again, erasing a 2-0 deficit this time, to win 7-2 and secure the series sweep.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Mia Haynes, Stony Brook

Junior | Manassas, Virginia / Lake Braddock HS   

Haynes went 2-0 in the circle, throwing 12 shutout innings with five strikeouts and leading Stony Brook to a CAA series sweep. 

In the second game against Hampton, the junior right-hander scattered six hits across five innings and tallied two punchouts in an 8-0 win. 

In the rubber match, Haynes was back in the circle and picked up where she left off, allowing two hits in five innings, with two strikeouts, in a 9-0 victory to clinch the series win. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Katie Scheivert, Delaware

Freshman | Outfield | Leesburg, Virginia / Tuscarora 

Scheivert helped Delaware to a 3-1 week and a fifth straight CAA series win, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with four RBIs and two runs scored. 

The freshman outfielder hit safely in three games, with a pair of multi-hit efforts. 

Scheivert opened the week with a 2-for-3 performance, recording two RBIs and two runs in a nonconference win over Delaware State. 

She concluded the weekend with hits in back-to-back games, helping the Blue Hens to a series win over Towson. 

In the rubber match, Scheivert went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two of Delaware’s three runs. 

CONFERENCE NOTES

FOUR CLINCH CAA TOURNAMENT BERTHS 

• Four teams - Delaware, Hofstra, UNCW and Towson - clinched berths in the expanded 2023 CAA Softball Tournament. 

Delaware and Hofstra will make their third straight appearances in the conference tournament, while Towson is back for the first time since 2019. 

UNCW, the defending CAA champion, returns for a second straight season, after making history last year. 

THE HENS STAY HOT

• Delaware has won five straight conference series, including three sweeps. 

The Blue Hens are 13-2 in the past 15 conference contests. 

During the Blue Hens’ hot streak, Delaware has nine shutouts in league play and outscored opponents 51-19. The Blue Hens are 14-4 in CAA play and sitting in first place in the conference standings. 

TOP TIER SHOWDOWN 

• The top two teams in the CAA standings will go head-to-head this weekend on Long Island. 

Second-place Hofstra hosts first-place Delaware in a pivotal three-game conference series. 

It is a battle of contrast, with the Pride leading the CAA in batting average (.320) and runs per game (6.3) during league play, while the Blue Hens top the conference in ERA (1.79) and opponent batting average (.198) in CAA games. 

Hofstra owns an overwhelming 74-27 advantage in the all-time series, but Delaware has won four straight series.

BREAK OUT THE BROOMS  

• Fourteen of the three-game conference series this spring have resulted in sweeps. 

Even more impressive, seven teams have earned a CAA series sweep. 

Charleston, North Carolina A&T and Elon each have one series sweep, and Hofstra has two, while Delaware, UNCW and Towson have swept three apiece.

TEAM NOTES

Charleston

• Shealyn Starks matched team highs in hits and RBIs and led the Charleston in runs scored. 

Starks batted .263, recording five hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. 

The junior had two multi-hit efforts, pushing her total to 11 this spring.

• Payton Lemire appeared in four games for the Cougars, racking up a team-high 14 innings pitched. 

The senior right-hander posted a 2.00 ERA with 17 strikeouts, despite an 0-1 record.

• Audri Bates batted a team-best .400 (4-for-10) across four games. 

Bates added two stolen bases and two runs scored throughout the week. 

The freshman outfielder hit safely in all four games, marking her longest hitting streak this season.

Delaware 

• Brittney Mendoza batted a team-best .556 (5-for-9) and recorded a .636 on-base percentage. 

Mendoza tallied five hits, hitting safely in all four games, including one multi-hit effort. 

The fifth-year infielder added two RBIs and one run scored for the week. 

• Katie Scheivert hit .455 (5-for-11) with a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored. 

The freshman hit safely in three games, with a pair of multi-hit efforts. 

Scheivert has multiple hits in nine games this season.

• Taylor Wroten went 1-0 in the circle, posting a team-best 1.91 ERA. 

The graduate right-hander matched the team lead with 11 innings of work and led the Blue Hens pitching staff with 11 strikeouts.

Drexel 

• Ashley Errico led the Drexel lineup with eight hits and a .471 batting average. 

The junior infielder had multiple hits in three games, including a career-high tying four in the weekend finale. 

Errico led the team with eight RBIs and added three runs scored.

• Izzy Alamillo batted .400 (6-for-15) with three runs scored and one RBI throughout the week. 

Alamillo hit safely in three games and reached safely in all four, posting a .471 on-base percentage. 

• Grace Abbonizio had a team-best .538 on-base percentage, recording three hits and three walks. 

Abbonizio also led the team with five runs, scoring at least one in each of the final three games. 

Elon 

• Chloe Hatzopoulos had a monster weekend, batting .700 (7-for-10) with three extra-base hits, five RBIs and three runs scored. 

She hit safely in all three games, including two multi-hit efforts and a career-high four-hit performance.

• Allee Seering hit .545, going 6-for-11 at the plate. 

Seering recorded four RBIs and three runs scored over the weekend. 

The sophomore hit safely in all three games, with a pair of multi-hit efforts. She also scored and drove in a run in all three outings.  

• Drew Menscer scored a team-high five runs. She scored in all three games, including twice in the opening two games of the weekend. 

Menscer added two hits and one RBI.  

Hampton 

• Emily Kepple batted .429 (3-for-7) to lead the Hampton lineup. 

The fifth year recorded a team-high three RBIs and scored one run. 

Kepple hit safely in all three games, extending her hitting streak to seven. 

• Camryn Thomas was 3-for-10 at the plate with one run scored. 

The junior outfielder hit safely in the final two games over the weekend, including her eighth multi-hit effort this spring.

• Janae Lyles started two games over the weekend, batting .600 in five plate appearances. 

Lyles went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the series opener. It matched her season-high for hits. 

Hofstra

• Chelsea Manto batted a team-best .500 with team highs of six hits, six runs scored and three stolen bases. 

Manto hit safely in all three games, including two multi-hit efforts. 

She has at one base knock in 13 of the past 14 contests, including seven in a row. 

• Julia Apsel went 1-1 in the circle, throwing a team-high 11 innings without allowing an earned run. 

The junior left-hander added a team-best 11 punchouts, with at least five in each appearance. 

• Meghan Giordano posted a team-best .615 on-base percentage, recording five walks and two hits. 

The graduate infielder added a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored. 

Giordano has now reached base safely in 10 straight games.

Monmouth 

• Riley Riendeau batted a team-best .600 (6-for-10) and posted a .636 on-base percentage. 

Riendeau hit safely in all three of her starts, including two multi-hit efforts. 

The senior infielder contributed four RBIs and four runs scored. 

• Julia Thuer recorded a team-high seven hits, batting .538 for the week. 

The junior infielder hit safely in all four games, with two multi-hit performances. 

In addition, Thuer drew two walks, posting a .600 on-base percentage. She had four runs scored and two RBIs.

• Francesca Torraca batted .500 (5-for-10) with a team-high five RBIs. 

Torraca hit safely and drove in at least one run in three games. 

The fifth-year outfielder has multiple hits in five of the past eight games. 

North Carolina A&T

• Dezianna Patmon batted .429 (3-for-7) to lead the A&T lineup and posted a team-best .636 on-base percentage. 

Patmon reached safely at least twice in all three games, recording three hits and four walks, while adding three runs scored. 

• Kayla Douglas was 2-0 in the circle, pitching 8.1 innings of relief without giving up an earned run. 

The senior right-hander scattered six hits and picked up five strikeouts over the weekend.

• Jocelyn Bennett hit .400 (4-for-10) with a team-high four RBIs and added one run scored over the weekend. 

Bennett hit safely in all three games and drove in at least one run in two of three. 

UNCW

• Kara Hammock (9-7) leads the CAA in earned run average at 1.76. 

The sophomore right-hander is one of two players in the conference with a sub-2.00 ERA, the other being her teammate. 

Hammock has 91.1 innings of work this spring and has recorded 76 strikeouts.  

• Janel Gamache leads the conference with a .448 on-base percentage and is second with a .380 batting average. 

Gamache has 41 hits with 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored. 

In addition, the graduate student is second in the CAA with a 1.77 ERA, throwing 55.1 innings with 40 punchouts.

• Tayler Vitola is eighth in the CAA in hits and batting average (.341). 

She leads UNCW with 43 hits, adding a team-best 23 runs scored with 15 RBIs. 

Vitola has 12 multi-hit efforts this spring.

Stony Brook 

• Ashley Jacobson batted .667 (8-for-12) and posted a .692 on-base percentage, slugging 1.400 with three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored throughout the week.

• Mia Haynes went 2-0 in the circle, throwing 12 shutout innings, with five strikeouts. 

The junior right-hander scattered eight hits and held the opposition to a .195 batting average. 

• Alyssa Costello batted .538 (7-for-13), hitting safely in all four games. 

Costello tallied seven hits, six RBIs and six runs scored. 

She had multiple hits in three starts and has at least one hit in 10 straight games. 

Towson 

• Briana Ramirez batted a team-best .500, leading Towson with four hits. 

The senior outfielder hit safely in the final three games of the weekend, including a career-high four hits in the series opener. Ramirez tallied a double, triple and two runs scored. 

• Maddie Gardner went 1-1 in the circle, posting a 1.97 ERA in 10.2 innings. The junior right-hander scattered seven hits, limiting the opposition to a .175 batting average. 

• Cara Bohner hit .375 (3-for-8) for the week with a team-high four RBIs. 

Bohner matched a team-best .545 on-base percentage, adding three walks, and reached safely in the final three games. Three of her four hits went for extra bases, including a double and homer.
