The first marquee tournament of the season is, appropriately enough, the sport's largest at the college level. THE Spring Games 2023 begin on Feb. 9 with the opening weekend, and the event features 2022 NCAA Tournament teams Michigan and Minnesota out of the Big Ten Conference.
Michigan's appearance at THE Spring Games should prove particularly intriguing, as it marks the beginning of a new era for the Wolverines. Last summer, the game's all-time winningest coach, called it a career.
THE Spring Games run throughout the month and into March, featuring a variety of brackets across all levels of college softball.
And while one titan of the game is honored with the beginning of a new era, another of softball's luminaries lends his name to another marquee event. The University of Arizona hosts the Candrea Classic, an opening-weekend tournament featuring Kansas, Long Beach State and North Carolina State, with Hall of Famer Mike Candrea's former standout player-turned-Arizona head coach Caitlin Lowe heading up the Wildcats.

Candrea built Arizona into a national powerhouse, and Lowe's first season continued the tradition with a surprise run to the WCWS. Candrea's place in the game is undeniable, much like that of the late, great Joan Joyce.
Joyce is remembered in February when Florida Atlantic — the program that Joyce helped build from the ground up — hosts the Joan Joyce Classic. The field includes North Carolina, Boston College and Villanova over the final weekend of February.
OU Softball Headlines Mark Campbell Invitational
Future legends are carving their own names in the annals of the sport in real-time, including the continued chase of history underway at Oklahoma. OU heads to the Mark Campbell Invitational in southern California, a seven-team event that also features All-American Baylee Klingler and her Washington Huskies teammates; national title hopeful Duke; 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifier Loyola Marymount; and more.
