Scarlett Stein Suffers Heart Attack Days After Signing NLI
Scarlett Stein, a commitment to Penn State New Kensington, died after suffering complications from a heart attack.
Scarlett Stein, a commitment to Penn State New Kensington, died Wednesday from complications of a heart attack, according to the Scarlett's Prayer Warriors Facebook page. She was 17.
Scarlett had the heart attack on Tuesday and was revived but remained in critical condition. She passed away after undergoing surgery.
She had signed her letter of intent to PSNK just days before.
Scarlett was a senior pitcher at Jeannette High School in Pennsylvania. She led her team to postseason play this year, throwing a one-hitter against Geibel High School. In May, she was featured as a Westmoreland Athlete of the Week and spoke of leading her team to the playoffs.
"I felt from the first inning it was going to be good," Stein said of the win over Geibel. "I can tell my pitches are all working. I know if I have a good game it reflects on the team."
Scarlett was a standout pitcher and leader on both her high school and Nitro club team.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Scarlett's family.
According to her obituary, Scarlett's funeral will be held Friday in Jeanette.
